Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) is the most widely recognised and influential artist of the 20th century. The Hong Kong Heritage Museum is thrilled to present the exhibition "PICASSO – Masterpieces from Musée National Picasso, Paris". Showcasing 56 of the artist’s original works from the permanent collection of the museum, this will be by far the most comprehensive exhibition of Picasso’s works ever held in Hong Kong.

Capturing every phase of Picasso’s prolific career, the retrospective covers his Blue, Rose, Cubist and Classical periods as well as showing some of his primitive and Expressionist works. It also includes 41 documentary photographs and a documentary film which help to present a detailed picture of the artist’s life. Not only does the wealth of materials enrich our understanding of Picasso and his oeuvre, but it also marks out the exhibition as a truly unmissable event.

All admission tickets are now sold out. Thank you for your interest in this exhibition!

LCSD museum pass holders and museum monthly pass holders are still welcomed to redeem admission vouchers with their museum pass at our Museum’s reception counter 15 minutes before each viewing session. Vouchers are available on a first-come-first-served basis.

A Documentary Film of Picasso

In association with this exhibition, a documentary film of Picasso (duration: 1 hour and 43 minutes) is being screened in Orientation Theatre at the ground floor of the Museum during the exhibition period. The film is provided by the Musée National Picasso, Paris.

Comprising mainly black and white silent film footage and sectioned into nine chapters according to varied themes, the documentary is a selection of short clips showing Picasso at home or at work. It shows the artist at his studios working on his paintings, ceramics or sculptures, as well as with friends and family on various occasions. The film also features images of Picasso's theatre projects and close-up shots of some of Picasso’s famous works, through which the audience can enjoy viewing in detail some of his unique body of works, such as the paper sculptures with bullfighting themes, or his series of ceramics. Majority of which belonging to the Picasso Archives at the Musée National Picasso, these valuable video clips show Picasso under the lens of the media, his family and friends. Capturing the artist in the most direct and candid manner, they offer an unusual angle for us to further understand this great artistic master.

Free viewing, admission ticket is not required. Limited seats on a first-come-first-served basis.

* Mainly black and white silent film with limited French narration, and no English or Chinese subtitles
