Hong Kong Heritage Museum

Introduction

Situated in the town center of Tai Po Market, the Hong Kong Railway Museum is an open-air museum occupying some 6,500 square meters converted from the old Tai Po Railway Station. Erected in 1913, the station building features the pitched roof of traditional Chinese building. It was declared a monument in 1984, refurbished and opened as a museum in 1985.

By MTR:

	1.	A 10-minute walk from Exit A2 of Tai Po Market Station to Tai Po Complex, follow the directional signage of the Museum and then through Wai Yi Street to On Fu Road by a 8-minute walk.
	2.	A 5-minute walk from Exit A of Tai Wo Station to Tai Wo Bridge, follow the directional signage of the Museum to Yan Hing Street by a 5-minute walk.
By Mini Bus:

	Interchange Mini Bus no. 20A, 20C, 20K at mini bus station next to MTR Tai Po Market Station, alight at Tai Po Complex and then through Wai Yi Street to On Fu Road by a 8-minute walk.
By Bus:

	KMB Bus nos. 72, 72X, 73X, 74X, 75X, 271, alight at Kwong Fuk Road and then a 15-minute walk along On Fu Road.

Christmas Eve and Lunar New Year’s Eve	10 am to 5 pm

Closed on Tuesdays (except public holidays) and the first two days of the Lunar New Year

Visiting Rules

To show proper consideration for the relics on display and to make sure our museum is a place where all visitors can enjoy in a pleasant atmosphere, please observe the following rules:


	please do not eat or drink, smoke, throw stones and pick flowers inside the museum.

	please do not bring animals and bicycles into the museum; guide dogs accompanying visually-impaired visitors are, however, allowed.

	please do not take wedding, graduation or portrait/cosplay photos inside exhibition gallery and historical coaches of the museum; please do not use tripods when taking photos in outdoor areas of the museum.

	without prior permission, please do not record videos inside the museum; visitors have to submit video filming application to the museum - please send email at hkrm@lcsd.gov.hk or call site staff at 2653 3455 for video filming enquiries.

Railway Museum Unveils a New Look for Its Exhibition Gallery

Closely following the recent advances on Hong Kong's rail networks, the Hong Kong Railway Museum is unveiling a brand new design for its exhibition gallery with plenty of updated content to highlight the latest happenings in the field. Newly added exhibits include historical pictures and artefacts that help chronicle the story of how the railways developed in Hong Kong.The gallery features an education corner in which interactive displays have been installed to enhance visitors' experience of the museum and broaden their knowledge of the railways, while new attractions showcase railway logos from different periods and profiles of future MTR extensions. Now is the perfect time to make tracks for the Hong Kong Railway Museum!

Exploring the history of the local railway transportation, the exhibits include the historic station building, six historical coaches, a narrow gauge steam locomotive and a diesel electric engine No.51.

Accessibility for the Disabled

Museum staff will assist the arrival and departure of both groups and individual visitors with special needs through the vehicle entrance at On Fu Road. Please contact site staff for assistance before visit.
