International Museum Day 2010, Hong Kong

Museums for Social Harmony

In 1978, the International Council of Museums (ICOM) designated 18 May as the annual International Museum Day (IMD). To promote the activities and services provided by museums in Hong Kong, as well as to interact with people from all walks of life, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) has been celebrating the occasion in mid-May every year since 2001. The celebration also helps raise public awareness of museums' functions and missions in society.

"Museums for Social Harmony" is the theme of this year's International Museum Day. We encourage different parties to visit museums, to foster goodwill and enhance peaceful coexistence, and so help build a harmonious society.

There will be free public admission to most of the local participating venues over the IMD weekend, on 15 and 16 May 2010. Also during these two days, different museums will hold educational and entertaining programmes. Come and join the fun!

For details of IMD 2010, Hong Kong, please refer to the announcements by individual museums, and visit the website of the Hong Kong Museum of Art at http://hk.art.museum for the list of participating museums.
