Cantonese Opera : Historical Development and Humanistic Spirit
The lecture introduces how Cantonese Opera has embedded the rich heritage and cultural values of Chinese traditions. In particular, performances of famous plays such as "The Floral Princess" and "The Surrender from the last Emperor of Southern Tang" demonstrate the complexity of human nature when the main characters in the stories experience the rise and fall of their country – the dignity behind the poignant love, the love classics exemplifying the allegiance to country through sacrifice. The lecture offers an exclusive guided tour to the Cantonese Opera Heritage Hall with more sharing of stories behind museum collection and exhibits.
